We welcome you to the Absolute Best HBCU in the Nation "The" Southern University and A&M College. I Jonas Vanderbilt, the Director of Student Life here at SUBR wholeheartedly love SU and want you to as well. The goals of the office are to engage with you the students and provide quality programming and guidance that will develop you into the productive graduate and citizen. You will encounter great powerful speakers through the Lyceum Series, social events inclusive of Homecoming and Springfest, as well as other cultural and intellectual events throughout the year.
Greeklife will play a much more pivotal role on the campus this year so look forward to exciting things from our Nation Pan Hellenic Council as well as our Social and Professional Greeks. The Student Government Association will have much in store for all the students to enjoy as well. So, I challenge you to get involved and volunteer. You all are a part of the SGA, Men’s Federation- fellas, and Association for Women Students- ladies.
We recently completed the celebration of 100 years since Southern University and A&M College’s relocation to “The Red Stick” Baton Rouge. Become engulfed in the culture of this fine institution and learn all that you can about OUR beloved Southern University. From the Mighty Bluff to the corners of the world you will learn that SU has family everywhere and will always be a home for you as you are now a part of the great and mighty Jaguar Nation.

Student Organizations
Greetings Students! My name is Ja’el Gordon, Coordinator for Student Organizations and Engagement, and I would like to warmly welcome you to an exciting academic year. #TeamSU, it’s time to #GetInvolved! The purpose of the office is to support, ensure sustenance, and functionally assist all student organizations on our wonderful campus. Are you a first year student, transfer, or a student married with children? First Year Experience (F.Y.E.) Organization or Non-Traditional Student Organization may be the perfect fit for you. Not a science major, but love animals? The Animal Science Club will show you how you can adopt a farm animal raised by the Southern University Ag Center! Think you have a wonderful speaking voice, but singing…not so much? You can be the newest radio host on The Bluff-Radio! With over 60 active and registered Student Organizations, we guarantee there is an organization for everyone! Be the creator of your own success! The Office of Student Organizations and Engagement is always available to help you create new organizations for others to join. Your ideas are likely someone else’s ideas too! An organization is about teamwork and building, so initiate the first step!
With so many of our student organizations hosting various enriching academic, social, and service related events last year, we have decided to create a section of Student Engagement designed specifically for all of your Community Service interests! These opportunities are for all SUBR students even if they are not a member of an organization.
We will be presenting more information on all of our organizations and community service opportunities on our website located at www.subr.edu/studentorgs I urge each of you today, to take a pledge of INVOLVEMENT! Remember: “All the world’s a stage. All the men and women are merely players” But remember, each of you are very important players so don’t forget to play your part! If you have any questions, please email them to jael_gordon@subr.edu or studentorgs@subr.edu.
#GetInvolved
